Qwik and?Easy

Accord?ing to a blog post by Net?flix CEO Reed Hast?ings, the DVD rental and stream?ing ser?vice has a few more changes head?ing our way. Start?ing with a purely cos?metic change, the recently sep?a?rated DVD-by-mail ser?vice will enjoy a name change. Hav?ing been made inde?pen?dent from the stream?ing ser?vice, the snail mail part of the busi?ness will soon be called Qwik?ster, a change which refers to the speed at which prod?uct will be shipped to con?sumers. Hast?ings promises that there are no fur?ther price hikes (the pric?ing struc?ture for those enjoy?ing both ser?vices had recently increased, with the option to only pay for one or the other). Addi?tion?ally, the sep?a?rate Qwik?ster accounts will spring into being on their own if you?re already tak?ing advan?tage of the mail service.

Another, for our pur?poses more impor?tant, change is also under?way. Net?flix is look?ing to cut into the busi?ness of Game?Fly, here State?side at least. As part of its Qwik?ster ser?vice, Net?flix will soon include game rentals by mail for Wii, 360, and PS3 con?sole games. This option, how?ever, is con?sid?ered an upgrade, so expect to pay an addi?tional monthly pre?mium for it. On the other hand, hav?ing all your enter?tain?ment option in one place may be worth?it.
