Valuable Information about a Drug Rehab in New York. | ArticlePDQ ...

Drug addiction is an essential issue people need to address. Typically, addicted people do not realize exactly how severe addiction is and have the tendency to wave it off as one of lifes tragedies. However, obsession to any substance, be it liquor, nicotine or drugs is certainly unhealthy and may even be life threatening. Find help from a drug rehab New York,US if any of your loved ones are addicts. Foremost, what do these programs give?.

Good Programs in Drug Rehab.

They will definitely learn just how to think logically because they no longer strive to cover their thoughts and feelings behind drugs. Physical and emotional well-being is guaranteed through yoga, martial arts and also such other holistic procedures.

There are a few substances that take a much longer time to get into the system of the body. This is particularly true if the person has formed a physical tolerance for covering the addiction. Amazingly, few people look to have ideal health conditions even on obsession to cocaine, heroin or other such narcotics. Drug rehabilitation programs present very good medical advice for drug withdrawal situations. These programs are also good for effective detoxification. These cleansing programs prevent the patient from retreating to the old habits of drug usage.

Besides lowering the addiction, the rehab program also helps avoid any signs of recurrence. Internal cleansing is therefore among one of the most effective programs offered. In addition, these programs make it simpler for an addict to be identified by the community by presenting occupational therapies. These two therapies teach life and social skills with which an addict may develop a new way of living for him/her. While the rehab programs offer freedom for the addicts, it can be quite hard for some junkies to manage such immediate responsibilities. They can be attracted towards drug dependence again. Rehab programs present such solutions also for protection of addicts.

In many circumstances, people become addicted to drugs as a result of disquieting emotional conditions. Some might also endure from mental illness that simply worsen the behavior pattern of an addict. Critical personal breakthrough is ensured by drug rehab New York as therapists spend quality time with the junkies. They attempt to uncover the dependence causes and determine the presence of other conditions that have to be treated simultaneously. Drug rehabs offer stress reduction through counseling , group discussions or other such rehab therapies. Though this could be mentally and emotionally exhausting, it is definitely less stressful than the usual life of an junkie. The patients need not worry about facets like work, relationships or financial problems which instigated the addiction process.

'Thunderbirds' creator Gerry Anderson dies

By Reuters

Gerry Anderson, the British creator of popular television show "Thunderbirds," died on Wednesday age 83 after a long battle with dementia, his son said on his blog.

Chris Ware / Getty Images file

"I'm very sad to announce the death of my father, 'Thunderbirds' creator Gerry Anderson. He died peacefully in his sleep at midday today ... having suffered with mixed dementia for the past few years," Anderson's son Jamie wrote.

The puppeteer started his television career in the 1950s, creating a string of popular British shows including 1964's "Stingray" and 1967's "Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons."

His company AP Films pioneered the "supermarionation" puppetry technique with the fusion of marionette figures and small-scale models to create live action-style shows.

Anderson's most notable production was 1965 series "Thunderbirds," featuring marionette puppets, about a secret organization that performs rescue missions using high-tech tools and vehicles, with characters such as ex-astronaut Jeff Tracy and agent Lady Penelope.

While the show only aired for two seasons on British television, it became a cult favorite and was adapted for the big screen, most recently in 2004 film "Thunderbirds," with the voices of Ben Kingsley and Bill Paxton.

Anderson is survived by his wife Mary and four children.

3 Reasons Why DC Starbucks Writing 'Come Together' is Pointless ...

3 Reasons Why DC Starbucks Baristas Writing ?Come Together? on Coffee Cups is Utterly Pointless

If you haven?t been watching the news lately or paying attention to the illegible sharpie-writing on your Starbucks coffee cup in the past day, let me catch you up as to what?s been going on in D.C.: as of yesterday, Starbucks employees in the District (and the general Washington-area) have been ordered to write ?Come Together? on every cup of coffee or drink that is ordered until Friday. Howard Schultz, CEO of Starbucks, has ordered all of his employees that work in the area to start writing this, ahem, ?cutesie? message in an effort to urge the coffee-guzzling denizens of the District to reach a compromise in Congress before the country careens off of the impending fiscal cliff. An interesting ploy and cute PR move on Starbucks part, but suffice to say there are a few (if not many) flaws in this theory.

?

Actually, there are three major ones that I can personally think of off the top of my head, which I shall address as promptly and succinctly as I can:

  1. What real fiscal cliff decision makers, i.e. John Boehener, Barack Obama, major party leaders, etc., drink Starbucks coffee? Answer: Probably none. ? Let?s get real here folks: as much as we all drown our gullets with hot brown cups of mediocrity we call Starbucks coffee, I highly doubt key members of Congress or President Obama would touch the stuff. Sure, staffers, lobbyists, and fed employees probably buy gallons of the ?Bucks in any given week, but if you think about it realistically, the chances that critical members of the Senate and House are gazing at an insightful message scribbled ?onto their Starbucks coffee cup during one of the most important legislative crunch times in the past few years are dubious at best.
  2. ?Come Together? sounds more like politically-correct holiday nonsense rather than a suggestion at compromising over one of the most heated political issues of President Obama?s presidency ? If I were to gaze upon a coffee cup and see the words ?Come Together? scribbled upon my drink, the last thing I would assume they would be referring to is the fiscal cliff. In fact, there are so many things I would assume they would be talking about before I would think ?fiscal cliff?, that I have decided to name a few of them ? holidays, Christmas, visiting loved ones, making friends,?a reference to one of the Beatles songs I like the least, etc. (list goes on)
  3. After years of getting your name wrong thousands of times over, who the hell actually reads what?s written on their coffee cups? ? Speaking as a guy named Carl who?s seen his name mistakenly scrawled upon coffee cups as Charlie, Charles, Carol, Earl (weird), Callie, and my personal favorite, Carol (so close yet so far), I have ultimately given up gazing upon what I can only assume is a barista?s poor attempt at writing my name correctly. Assuming I?m not the only person who shows as much interest in what?s written on their coffee cup as a wet carrot, who the hell would bother reading a message like ?Come Together? written on their cup?

Let me clarify that I am all about coming to some sort of working compromise before federal sequestration and the loss of Bush-era tax cuts hits this country like a pile of bricks, but writing vague messages that can be interpreted a million different ways on coffee cups in D.C. is not the most constructive way to go about it.

23 Dec

I installed some speed reading apps and tested them. I?ve so far notices a few ?categories? or groups of equals:

  • One kind exists mostly from showing a text word by word in the middle of the screen. Showing each word a very short time and so you can read at a high wpm because you never need to move your eyes.
  • Another kind is merely a speed reading article disguised as app.
  • Another kind is no speed reading app but just a reading app with a fancy name.
  • Yet another kind is training in the form of news/actually.
  • And the last kind is a training app, not for your own stuff but purely for training.

I only tested them quickly and unions talked the non-interesting. But they aren?t quite what I?m looking for. Maybe I should write one myself for training and guided reading.

"LG offers superb audio and video products to help consumers realize a truly immersive home cinema experience. By implementing advanced technologies, smart connectivity and control, LG will continue to be a leader in the audio visual segment in 2013."

True Cinema Sound: Audio System That Rivals Theaters

LG emphasized improved sound quality with its Home Theater Systems this year, which is best exemplified by the BH9430PW, a high-quality surround sound speaker system designed to take the movie viewing experience to the next level. LG opted to employ speaker cones using high-tensile Aramid fiber, which is used in high-end home theaters and results in a wider range of sound, including defined, deep bass with near-zero sound distortion.? Additionally, the 9.1-channel system creates four additional channels in addition to the typical 5.1 setup, delivering an even more immersive audio experience. A chorus of stunning sound is produced by the front tallboy and rear satellite speakers, helping to fill the entire room with a soundscape that rivals that of an actual cinema. The system's 3D Surround Processor analyzes content to distribute sound in multiple directions while maintaining an appropriate balance.

A new convenience feature added to the 2013 lineup is called Private Sound Mode, which lets consumers feed the system's sound directly to their smartphone via Wi-Fi (sold separately) where they can listen with any regular earbuds. 15 Heartburn DOs and DONTs | Care2 Healthy Living

Heartburn is a familiar foe. Roughly 50 percent of Americans feel the heat at least once a month; 20 percent suffer from symptoms two or three times a week and have chronic heartburn or GERD (short for gastroesophageal reflux disease). Here are 15 Dos and Don?ts of Heartburn:

Do find out the root cause of your heartburn. Many things stress, food allergies, structural problems with your esophageal sphincter can cause or exacerbate the problem.

Do consider raising the head of your bed. Elevating your noggin keeps the contents of the stomach from sliding up against the LES (the sphincter that separates the esophagus from the stomach) while you sleep. Put a 4-by-4-inch piece of wood under the top two legs of your bed. A foam wedge under the mattress may also work.

Do chew thoroughly. Chewing aids digestion by breaking down food and mixing it with digestive enzymes and probiotics in the mouth.

Do consider natural chewing gum after meals. In two recent randomized controlled studies, people prone to heartburn who chewed a piece or two of gum after a heartburn-provoking meal sidestepped the telltale symptoms. Researchers think it?s because the gum stimulates saliva production, which is alkaline. The saliva goes down the esophagus and helps protect the food tube and neutralize some of the acid in the stomach. (Avoid peppermint-flavored gum, which can actually increase the odds of reflux.)

Do chew a tablet or two of DGL (deglycyrrhizinated licorice) 15 minutes before a meal, advises Elizabeth Lipski, PhD, clinical nutritionist and author of?Digestive Wellness: Strengthen the Immune System and Prevent Disease Through Healthy Digestion (McGraw-Hill, 2011). Licorice contains substances that decrease swelling (a swollen sphincter won???t close correctly) and increases the body?s ability to heal ulcers and inflammation.

Do eat smaller meals. The greater the volume of your meal, the higher the odds it will give you heartburn simply because of the mechanical pressure the weight of the food puts on the LES.

Do encourage the proliferation of dietary enzymes and good bacteria by eating fermented foods rich in probiotics, such as yogurt, kefir, raw cheeses, sauerkraut, lassi, miso, tempeh and kombucha.

Do take a cue from ancient culinary traditions and build a digestive boost into the meal. Nibble on shavings of pickled ginger, spoon up some tangy Indian chutney or savor an umeboshi plum (a pickled fruit found in the Asian or macrobiotic section of the health-food store). ?Somewhere along the way, Western cuisine lost those built-in digestive aids,?? says Lipski. ?Adding one of these foods to your meal can go a long way to stopping heartburn before it starts.??

Do pay attention to what you consume. Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables to keep things moving. When cooking meat, choose to grill, broil or bake instead of pan fry or deep fry. Try goat?s milk dairy products, which contain less fat than cow?s milk and, as a result, are more easily digestible.

Do limit junk food. Processed foods are filled with chemicals designed to delay degradation and extend shelf life, and they may have hidden ingredients that do not agree with your GERD,??? writes Jorge Rodriguez, MD, author of?The Acid Reflux Solution.

Don?t wear your skinny jeans too tight. Constrictive clothing can put pressure on the abdomen. The squeeze can press the stomach?s contents up against the sphincter at the base of the esophagus, which can lead to heartburn.

Don?t eat within two hours before vigorous exercise. Too much vigorous exercise (like jumping rope or fast-paced jogging) can induce acid reflux, even in people who usually don?t suffer from the condition. If you?re at the gym on a full stomach, choose the cycling class over the hip-hop yoga.

Don?t lie down within two to three hours of eating. Gravity is your friend. Give the stomach plenty of time to empty its contents before you get horizontal.

Don?t eat foods that may irritate the inflamed lining of the esophagus, such as citrus juice, tomato juice and spicy foods.

Don?t suck on peppermints to combat the sour taste in your mouth. Peppermint can relax the esophageal sphincter muscle, which could exacerbate your problem.

?Dystextia': Gibberish texts sound stroke alarm

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - Imagine you were a devoted husband, waiting to hear from your wife about her due date after a visit to the obstetrician, and you saw these on your phone:

"every where thinging days nighing"

"Some is where!"

That's what happened last December to a Boston-area man, who knew that autocorrect - known for its bizarre replacements - was turned off on his 11-week-pregnant wife's phone.

You'd probably be tempted to make sure your wife, 25, got to the emergency room. When she did, doctors noted several signs of a stroke, including disorientation, inability to use her right arm and leg properly and some difficulty speaking.

A magnetic resonance imaging scan - MRI - revealed that part of the woman's brain wasn't getting enough blood, clinching the diagnosis. Fortunately, her symptoms went away quickly, and the rest of the pregnancy went just fine after she went home from the hospital on low-dose blood thinners.

The case, say three doctors from Boston's Harvard Medical School who reported it online today in the Archives of Neurology, suggests that "the growing digital record will likely become an increasingly important means of identifying neurologic disease, particularly in patient populations that rely more heavily on written rather than spoken communication."

The authors describe the phenomenon as "dystextia," which is the word used by other doctors in an earlier case involving a migraine, and symptoms of a stroke diagnosed for other reasons.

"In her case, the first evidence of language difficulties came from her unintelligible texts," one of the report's authors, Dr. Joshua Klein, told Reuters Health by email.

Strokes are rare in women aged 15 to 34, with about 11,000 per year, according to data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention published last year.

Dr. Sean Savitz, who directs the stroke program at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston, said he has seen a few patients who sent emails suggesting they were having difficulty with language, a condition known as aphasia.

Such clues usually come with other information however. In this case, for example, the patient's obstetrician's office later remembered that she had trouble filling out a form. And they might have caught the language difficulty earlier had the woman not had a weak voice, thanks to a recent upper respiratory infection.

"So, this case report per se does not indicate to me if dystextia is going to be more common to pick up strokes," Savitz told Reuters Health by email, "but I do think it will be a valuable addition to the collection of information that neurologists should obtain when taking a history."

"The main stroke warning signs with respect to texting would be unintelligible language output, or problems reading or comprehending texts," said Klein. "Many smartphones have an ?autocorrect' function which can introduce erroneous word substitutions, giving the impression of a language disorder."

Autocorrect, said Savitz, a professor of neurology, can confuse matters - even for doctors.

"I have often joked with my colleagues when using the dictation of the smartphone, that it gives me an aphasia," he said. "Potential for lots of false positives!"

'One Christmas at a Time' is holiday music for gamers and geeks

9 hrs.

When was the last time you took a sleigh ride to grandma's house? And have you ever actually?roasted chestnuts?on an open fire? Have you? Really?

We love our traditional holiday songs this time of year, but after a while?one can't help but long for?a little Christmas music that's more ... relevant to the times.

That's where the new album from geek and gamer cult fave?Jonathan Coulton and his?collaborator John Roderick of the The?Long Winters rides to the rescue (in a rocket-powered?sleigh pulled by robots, that is).?

"One Christmas at a Time" ? which you can download for $10?here, here and here ? is chock full of quirky, funny and even heartwarming songs for the kind of modern?holidays we all know, love and sometimes loathe.

After all, who hasn't?watched that annoying/drunk relative?ruin the Christmas dinner?(or at least make everyone really uncomfortable)? And who hasn't longed for that gift that they might not get?

In "One Christmas at a Time," Coulton and Roderick?sing?songs?about awkward holiday celebrations, failed shopping efforts?and?that strange?week between Christmas and New Year's Day, offering up some tech-themed tunes along the way. For example, in?"Wikipedia Chanukah" Coulton and Roderick?take us on a tour of the online encyclopedia's explanation of the Jewish holiday (perhaps the closest you'll hear these two come to performing dubstep) And "2600" is a zippy?ode to Coulton and Roderick's childhood longing to find an?Atari 2600 game machine under the tree. (Coulton was fortunate enough to get one but Roderick, alas, was given an Intellivison instead).?

Coulton, a former computer programmer, has earned a dedicated?following among gamers,?geeks and nerds of all stripes?thanks to his intelligent?song-writing infused with a sense of humor. ?His song?"Code Monkey" ? a jaunty, simian ode?to programmers everywhere ? became a hit among the tech crowd. And his song "I'm Your Moon"?about Pluto's demotion from planet status and its unusual dance with the moon Charon is a stargazer favorite.

Meanwhile,?Coulton has written a couple of gaming world's most famous and?most covered songs. That is, he wrote?"Still Alive"?the song sung by the malevolent artificial intelligence GLaDOS at the end of "Portal." The brain-consumingly?catchy?tune?has been covered by?furries,?a?children's choir?and even?some?computers.?And Coulton?followed that hit up?with the song?"Want You Gone" for "Portal 2" (check out the excellent?fan-made video?here.)?

Of course, the question is,?why a Christmas album?

"It?s one of those things that,?when you are a musician and you?re working on stuff, putting albums out, it?s this thing that?s always on your radar as a thing you?re eventually going to do before you die," he told NBC News in a recent interview. "You?ve already done the first album, then you?ve done the difficult second album. Then there?s a bunch of other?albums in the middle. Somewhere near the end, you do the duets album ??right before you die probably. But before that, you do a Christmas record and?you do maybe a kid?s record."

Oh and he adds, "You?ve got to do an electronica album in there somewhere. That?s in my future I think."

Certainly Coulton doesn't shy away from doing the unexpected. The singer/songwriter has carved out?his own niche?(and inspired?a passionate following online and off) ever since giving up his career as a programmer.

"You spend nine years at the same company working on the same software package and you start to wonder what else is out there," he said. What was out there for Coulton was music ? and a unique project that still inspires him to this day.

"When I started doing music full time, the first thing I did was this Thing a Week Project, which was a year of releasing a new song every Friday whether I wanted to or not," he said. "And the thing that I learned from that is that I really blossom creatively when I?m challenged and afraid."

Coulton said he uses that lesson as a compass when deciding what to do next.

"If?somebody?says, 'Hey do you want to do this thing?' and it makes me a little frightened,?then while my lizard brain says, 'No no no you shouldn?t do that!' my higher brains says, 'You should think about doing that because that might be really?interesting.'"

And Coulton has no shortage of interesting projects in the works. In addition to the Christmas album and a recent tour, he is the co-host for the NPR puzzle and?word games show "Ask Me Another,"?season 2 of which begins in January.??(If you'd like to attend one of the upcoming live tapings, check out this link.)

Coulton is also gearing up for the third annual?Jo Co Cruise Crazy?event???a weeklong?Eastern Caribbean cruise in which fans are invited to sail the high seas aboard a Royal Caribbean ship while the singer?and an amazing array of artists and entertainers perform for and amuse?them. Among the confirmed stars who will be onboard this geek-filled ship starting Februrary 10 ? John Hodgman and Wil Wheaton as well as Coulton's "One Christmas at a Time" collaborator John Roderick.

"It's a ton of fun," he says of this unique seafaring adventure (which you can still sign up for). "It's about the cruise, but it's also about this community of people who are fans of things that are awesome who all get together in this one space. And the bonus is, that space is this cruise ship in the Caribbean!"

If you can't afford to join?Coulton on the high seas, you can still get your dose of his brand of music and humor by downloading?"One Christmas at a Time."?And this time of year it's also worth downloading an earlier Coulton science-fiction-themed holiday?favorite???"Chiron Beta Prime."

It's a little ditty?about a family celebrating the?holidays?from an?asteroid ruled by?robot overlords ? with nary a roasting chestnut in sight. Go on, sing along ...

This year has been a little crazy for the Andersons.

You may recall we had some trouble last year.

The robot council had us banished to an asteroid.

That hasn't undermined our holiday cheer.

And we know it's almost Christmas by the marks we make on the wall.

That's our favorite time of year.

Merry Christmas from Chiron Beta Prime,

Where we're working in a mine for our robot overlords.

Did I say overlords? I meant protectors.

Merry Christmas from Chiron Beta Prime.

Egypt opposition alleges vote fraud in referendum

CAIRO (AP) ? Egypt's opposition called Sunday for an investigation into allegations of vote fraud in the referendum on a deeply divisive Islamist-backed constitution after the Muslim Brotherhood, the main group backing the charter, claimed it passed with a 64 percent "yes" vote.

Official results have not been released yet and are expected on Monday. If the unofficial numbers are confirmed, it will be a victory Islamist President Mohammed Morsi, who is from the Brotherhood.

But for many Egyptians, especially the tens of millions who live in extreme poverty, the results are unlikely to bring a hoped for end to the turmoil that has roiled their country for nearly two years since the uprising that ousted authoritarian leader Hosni Mubarak.

The opposition allegations look likely to prolong the struggle that has exploded in deadly street violence at times over the past month, ensuring that stability will remain elusive.

"The referendum is not the end game. It is only a battle in this long struggle for the future of Egypt," said the National Salvation Front, the main opposition group. "We will not allow a change to the identity of Egypt or the return of the age of tyranny."

The opposition claims the new constitution seeks to enshrine Islamic rule in Egypt and accuses the Islamists of trying to monopolize power.

Critics say it does not sufficiently protect the rights of women and minority groups and empowers Muslim clerics by giving them a say over legislation. Some articles were also seen as tailored to get rid of Islamists' enemies and undermine the freedom of labor unions.

The opposition front said it filed complaints to the country's top prosecutor and the election commission asking for an investigation.

"The results of the referendum are for sure because of the rigging, violations and mismanagement that characterized it," the opposition group said.

However, the Brotherhood insisted violations were limited and should not affect the referendum's integrity.

The Freedom and Justice Party, the Brotherhood's political arm, said it hoped the passage of the constitution would be a "historic opportunity" to heal Egypt's divisions and launch a dialogue to restore stability and build state institutions.

If the violations are considered serious enough, there could be new votes in some areas that alter the results slightly.

One major concern in the aftermath of the constitutional turmoil is Egypt's deteriorating economy, which has been battered by the two years of turmoil and taken an added hit from renewed violence recently.

The referendum was conducted in two stages with the first vote on Dec. 15 and the second on Saturday. The Muslim Brotherhood and some media outlets have accurately tallied the outcome of past elections by compiling numbers released by electoral officials at thousands of individual polling stations shortly after voting closes.

Turnout for the vote was 32 percent of Egypt's more than 51 million eligible voters, according to the Muslim Brotherhood. That was significantly lower than other elections since the uprising ended in February 2011. The opposition has pointed to the low turnout as well as allegations of violations in the voting to cast doubt on the legitimacy of the referendum.

The Brotherhood said 64 percent voted "yes" to the constitution in a tally of both stages of voting. For Saturday's second stage only, the Brotherhood said 71 percent of those who voted said "yes" with 99 percent of polling stations accounted for.

As expected, it was a jump from the first round of voting when about 56 percent said "yes." The provinces that voted in the second round were known for being a base for Brotherhood supporters.

Only about eight million of the 25 million Egyptians eligible to vote in the second stage ? a turnout of about 30 percent ? cast their ballots. Some 32 percent of eligible voters participated in the first round.

The local media has reported results similar to the Brotherhood's. State-owned Al-Ahram newspaper said in its English language online version that 16.2 million eligible voters cast their vote, and the constitution passed with a 63.96 percent. Those numbers reflected totals of the two stages of voting.

The National Salvation Front alleged the vote was marred by lack of complete judicial supervision, which led to overcrowding that pushed down the voting rate. It also charged there was interference by those who were supposed to be supervising the vote, with some instructing people to vote "yes." Many judges who traditionally supervise elections boycotted supervising the vote.

"We don't think the results reflect the true desires of the Egyptian people," Khaled Dawoud, the front's spokesman, told The Associated Press.

The Front said that regardless of the results, it welcomed the participation of many who rejected the constitution and refused to consider it a vote on Islamic law. The group vowed to continue to "democratically" work to change the constitution and praised the high turnout of women.

The Islamists say Islam is core to Egypt's identity and they view the constitution as a foundation to move forward, elect a parliament and build state institutions.

The new constitution will come into effect once official results are announced.

Once that happens, Morsi is expected to call for the election of parliament's lower chamber, the more powerful of the legislature's two houses, within two months.

The opposition said that even though it is challenging the results of the referendum, it will continue to prepare for the upcoming parliamentary elections.

Until the lower chamber is elected, the normally toothless upper house, or Shura Council, will have legislative powers.

On Sunday, Morsi appointed 90 new members to the Islamist-controlled Shura Council as part of his efforts to make the council more representative. The new appointments included at least 25 Islamists and eight Christians. They also include eight women, four of them Christians.

The opposition front said it did not want its members nominated to the Shura Council.

Christmas Party 2012 ? thejarjouras

Typically, I spend months planning a party. So three weeks ago when I decided to throw a little Christmas party at our house, I quickly got into party mode?there was no time to waste. I wanted a?small, intimate, and fun party for the kids as well as the adults. I had a lot of ideas; but neither of our shipments have arrived in Shanghai yet, so I had to start over?with Christmas decor, craft supplies and party supplies. My work was definitely cut out for me! After some thought, I decided to go with candy cane stripes for the decor and the theme was cookie decorating and letters to Santa for the kids. The adults were easy: hors de oeuvres, spirits and conversation!

We started by eating pizza for dinner, then the kids wrote their letters to Santa. Each letter had an addressed envelope to Santa at the North Pole and pre-paid postage! It was fun reading what the kids want Santa to bring them? Stavros decided while writing his letter to ask for a yellow bike from Santa. What, a yellow bike?! That?s the first time ?Santa? has heard of this, I?m sure? Yikes, not what Santa planned on dropping off for Stavros. After writing the letters, a courier happened to stop by the house to get the letters to Santa over-night (perfect timing)! I set up a craft station for the kids, where they painted, colored, glued and constructed holiday-themed crafts. I wanted the kids to take the lead, so they saw the supplies and did whatever came to mind! I don?t know why, but painting is best when multiple children contribute. I think the crafts were the favorite part of the evening for all the kids. There were big smiles all around.

Once everyone finished?with their crafts, the kids used their photo props I made to take silly photos. The kids had three options: a Santa hat and beard, Rudolph antlers and red nose, or an elf hat and ears! Fun! Next, we began decorating the cookies. The kids all got an apron, chef hat and oven mitt for the activity. I set out all the decorating supplies on the table, and just let the kids take the lead. Stavros, Tammer and I made the cookies earlier that morning, so the cookies were delicious and difficult to resist while decorating. Each kid got a bag to take his/her decorated cookies home to enjoy or save for Santa. Next, we headed to the dining room for some Christmas cake! Whenever there is cake, Stavros insists on candles. So, we all sang Happy Birthday to Jesus and three of the boys blew out the candles together. It was very sweet and very original, all thanks to my three-year-old?s tenacity!

For party favors, the kids got a reindeer water bottle, reindeer candy canes, a reindeer zippered pouch from Starbucks, hand-made Santa lollipops, snowman soup packets, a holiday cookie from H??gen Dazs, a reindeer tree ornament and a snowman or reindeer candy bar. It was a successful party with great company. I loved the intimacy and I look forward to doing it again next year when Stavros will have an even better understanding of Christmas.
