CHICAGO RIDGE, Ill. (AP) -- A longtime suburban Chicago mayor who's preparing to step down after 38 years in office says he has no regrets.

Gene Siegel has been Chicago Ridge's mayor since 1975 when he was elected. He was re-elected nine times after that.

He's seen the community about 20 miles southwest of Chicago grow from 2,000 to 15,000 during his time in office.

Siegel says it's time to move on.

His accomplishments include a municipal complex named after him and a 130-acre industrial park.

The SouthtownStar reports (http://bit.ly/U2dV7M ) that Siegel will leave office in May and be replaced by Charles Tokar, who is the village clerk running unopposed in the April 9 election.
