BIRATNAGAR: African United defeated Mega Three Star Club in sudden death to enter the final of the first Rum Pum Birat Gold Cup here at the Biranagar Stadium on Thursday. Federic scored the winning goal in the second sudden death spot kick after Ravi Thapa Magar missed his penalty. In the first sudden death attempt, Bikram Lama of Three Star failed to score but goalkeeper Kiran Chemjong kept them in the match with a brilliant save to deny Lucky. Earlier both the teams failed to score in the normal 90 minutes and 20 minutes of added on time. The match was decided on sudden death after both the sides converted four spot kicks on penalties. African United will take on Laxmi Hyundai Manang Marshyangdi Club in Saturday?s final.

Samyak, Ira win

LALITPUR: Samyak Bhusan Bajracharya and Ira M Raut clinched the U-10 singles titles of the fourth KESA Group-JTI Junior Open Tennis Championships here at the Satdobato Tennis court on Thursday. Samyak defeated Prashant Basnet 6-4, 6-4 in the U-10 boys? singles final while Ira rallied for a 5-7, 6-2, 6-3 win over Utsavi Joshi in the U-10 girls? singles final. Meanwhile, Ivanhoe Lissanevitch and Pranab Kayastha set the U-14 boys? singles title clash while Bibhuti Karki and Bijisha Shrestha set the U-14 girls? singles championship tie. Ivanhoe eased to a 6-1, 6-0 win over Abhash Malla and Pranab saw off Subodh Udas 6-1, 7-6 while Bibhuti dispatched Mayanka Rana 6-0, 6-3 and Bijisha overcame Ani Mathema 6-2, 6-4 in semi-finals.

Rato Pool triumph

KATHMANDU: Rato Pool beat New Vision Club by 33 runs in the U-19 Kathmandu District Selection Cricket Tournament here at the Tribhuvan University Stadium on Thursday. Electing to bat first, Rato Pool scored 146-4 in 25 overs. In reply, New Vision were restricted to 113 runs in 23.1 overs. Nupur Pandey top scored for Rato Pool with an unbeaten 37 runs. Sunam Gautam contributed 28 while Bijay Gautam and Waish Alam chipped in 19 runs each. Sambardhan Jung Rana took two and Saroj Shahi bagged one wicket for New Vision. Chasing 147 runs, New Vision failed to bat out their quota of 25 overs despite significant contributions from Sumit Lama (33), Ranjit Bhattarai (26) and Shobit Dhoj Chand (23). Mohammad Shahid and Bijay Gautam grabbed three wickets apiece for Rato Pool. Meanwhile the other match between Rato Pool and Baluwatar Cricket Academy ?A? was abandoned midway due to rain. Baluwatar had scored 148-4 in 25 overs before rain completely washed out the Rato Pool innings.

Lumbini champions

LALITPUR: Luminini claimed the fourth National Cricket for Blinds with a six-wicket win over Kathmandu in final here at the Pulchowk Engineering College grounds on Thursday. Put into bat first, Kathmandu made 164-8 in 20 overs before Lumbini surpassed the total for the loss of four wickets in 17.5 overs. Jiten Shrestha top scored for Kathmandu with 48 runs while Kausal Rayamajhi chipped in 21 runs. Ram Prasad Poudel scored a match-winning 64 runs in Lumbini?s run chase. Jagsagar picked up two wickets for Kathmandu.

NECOS Basketball

KATHMANDU: National Basketball Association and Moti Devi Shrestha Memorial Centre are jointly organising the second NECOS Open Women?s National Basketball Championship from April 8-12 in Kathmandu. A total of 12 teams including five from outside the valley ? Sunsari, Kaski, Morang, Chitwan and Kavre (Kathmandu University) ? are taking part in the tournament, said the organisers at a press meet on Thursday. The teams from valley are Prime Sports Club, Premier College, NASA International College, Nag Sports Club, Golden Gate Club, TIA Club and Morgan Sports Club. The top three four teams will receive Rs 60,000, Rs 30,000, Rs 20,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively. The Most Valuable Player, Inspiring Team and Fair Play Team will be awarded with Rs 10,000 each.

LALITPUR: Tusal Youth Club defeated Madhyapur Youth Association 1-0 in the Red Bull ?B? Division National League here at the Buddhi Bikas Khel Mendal grounds on Thursday. Shyam Babu Magar scored the solitary goal of the match in the 20th minute. In another match, Kasturi Youth Club of Siraha beat Trinity Club of Syangja 3-1. Dipendra Kumar Chaudhary scored on 27, 61 and 82 minutes to complete his hat-trick for the winners after Amrit Kumar Chaudhary had put Trinity ahead with a second-minute goal.
